PRF method for fast and effective healing
PRF Method
The PRF method was first described by Dr. Joseph Choukroun in 2001. Since then, the method has been used continuously and ever more widely, mainly in dental and oral surgery, with 20 years of experience.
What does PRF mean?
PRF stands for platelet rich fibrin, a blood product which helps accelerate tissue healing. The essence of the procedure is extracting from the patient’s own blood, with the help of a special centrifuge, the cells and tissue elements that are key elements in the body’s healing process (fibrins, platelets, leukocytes, cytokines, growth factors, etc.).
How is the PRF method carried out?
Venous blood is taken from the patient at the same time as the planned dental / oral surgery, similarly to a routine blood test. Depending on the kind of intervention, in general, only a few test tubes of blood are needed. There’s no need to add any other components to the blood (not even an anticoagulant), so we can use the patient’s own blood directly without additives and without biochemical modifications.
The test tubes are placed in a centrifuge machine, which very quickly separates the blood into different fractions. Then we separate the part that contains the most necessary factors for us. The product can be applied to the site of the procedure in several ways; if necessary, it can be formed into a membrane, which perfectly closes the affected area.
In what cases is it recommended to use?
The method can be successfully applied both after simple tooth removals and after surgical tooth removals. PRF preparation can also be used to preserve bone and soft tissue stock (alveolus preservation). During dental implantation or, if necessary, in case of sinus lifting, even in case of bone replacement, either alone or with the use of bone replacement material.
It can also be used successfully for certain periodontological procedures and surgeries.

What are the biggest benefits of the PRF method?
The PRF procedure has been the subject of numerous studies and a series of scientific articles confirming of its high success rate. Since the method has been used since 2001, long-term experience is also available, with very favourable results.
The procedure is simple, quick and practical, since it takes place at the same time as the planned dental procedure in the same place, for which only a simple routine blood collection is required.
The resulting material is fully biocompatible, since it contains only its own substances, which are present in the blood anyway. The word self-regeneration is the most characteristic of the procedure, since healing takes place in the same way as natural processes, with the same factors, only to a faster extent.
The main key to this success – and perhaps the greatest advantage of the procedure – is that the elements necessary for healing are present in very high concentrations and compressed. Thanks to fibrin, a matrix is created in which healing processes can take place undisturbed.
The resulting frame ensures the movement, connection and development of cells and tissue elements, and ensures their long-term presence while keeping them in place for a long time. The process of angiogenesis (vascular formation) can also take place faster and under more favourable conditions, which is essential for wound healing and bone formation. It also has a bacteriostatic effect, which protects against bacteria and wound super-contamination.
As a result, patients experience less inflammation and fewer complications, making wound healing less painful and faster. The PRF preparation can also be made into a membrane, which enhances the protection of the tissues below it and the bacteriostatic effect, thus promoting regeneration. Furthermore, the advantage of the PRF procedure is that the result achieved can be maintained in the long term.
The resulting tissues prevent absorption due to the natural aging of bone and soft tissue formulas. If PRF is inserted together with bone replacement material, the possible absorption of bone replacement material is also reduced.
The result that can be achieved by the procedure is outstanding from both a functional and an aesthetic point of view, any intervention and/or prosthesis can be made in the given area in the future. In order to do this, we must ensure the quantitative and qualitative presence of hard and soft tissue structures.
The procedure can therefore be widely used in all areas of dentistry and oral surgery. It has no contraindications, general organizational diseases and medications do not affect the applicability of the method.
In conclusion
In dental and oral surgery, we often have to think ahead and ensure that our intervention is successful in the long term – whether it is tooth removal, oral surgery, bone replacement, implant insertion and/or prosthesis. The PRF technique, which can meet the expectations of both the doctor and the patient, can be of great help to all this. Summing up in one sentence: the PRF method is one of the most modern and effective ways to promote wound healing.
The PRF method is available at our clinic as of 45,000 Ft.
