Root canal treatment (Endodontics)

Root canal treatment is a dental procedure used to treat infection at the center of a tooth (the root canal system). It’s also known as 'endodontics'. Intervention is needed when the pulp becomes inflamed or infected. During pulp inflammation the following symptoms can occur; tooth discoloration, sensitivity and pain.

Inflammation, Reasons

The causes could be deep tooth decay, repeated dental procedures on one tooth (replacing a large filling, for example), or traumatic damage such as a crack, chip or even a root fracture. With root canal treatment further infections can be prevented and the sensation of pain can be terminated.

Purpose

The primary purpose of root canal treatment is saving the tooth by cleaning and filling the inner part of the tooth. We use the most modern materials during the procedure. The inflammation of the pulp may be painful, but during root canal treatment, the patient does not feel pain because a local anaesthetic is used to numb the area. Local anaesthesia can be used with pregnant women.

At Nádor dental we use the Morita endodontic machine. With it we can easily and efficiently prepare root canal fillings, as the digital display monitors the closeness of the tooth tip, ensuring accurate and thorough work.

Procedure

Root canal treatment is a multi-step process. The first step is to take an X-ray that provides information on the status of both the tooth and the surrounding bones. In the second step, specialists will check the condition of the relevant tooth, determining whether the nerve is alive or dead. Subsequently the dentist uses lidocaine spray to numb the gum before local anaesthesia is induced in the area near the tooth. In the third step the pulp, along with bacteria, the decayed nerve tissue, and related debris, is removed from the tooth.

After locating and determining the length of the root canal and cleaning it of bacteria, the canal has to be widened. The root canal is then expanded and cleaned out, after which a natural root canal filling is applied. After the treatment, sharp pain and tenderness are gradually eliminated.

With the removal of the infected bacterial debris and disinfection, the tooth becomes totally painless. A tenderness may persist for one or two days after the procedure.

The Cost of Root Canal Treatment varies according to the tooth- it's between 35.000 and 60.000 HUF
